A home spa day might just be the answer to your stress or boredom, but what do you need to make it happen? Although there are several spa treatments that you can purchase and then use in the comfort of your own home, there are also several spa-like products that you can buy and use in your own bathroom or living room so that you don’t have to leave your home. So, whether you want to get in touch with your inner wellness self or just need an excuse to relax, here are seven things you need for the perfect home spa day.

1) Spa Products

When you’re planning a home spa day, it’s important to have all the right products on hand. That means stocking up on things like body scrubs, face masks, bath bombs, and essential oils. But don’t forget the little details, too, like candles and soft towels. You’ll also want to make sure you have healthy snacks ready in case you feel a little peekish, and you could even top it off with a lunch or dinner for that extra special occasion.

2) Relaxing Music

The first step to setting the mood for your home spa day is to choose some relaxing music. This will help you get into the right mindset and set the tone for a calm and peaceful experience. There are many different genres of music that can be relaxing, so choose whatever you enjoy listening to. Some people prefer classical music, while others find nature sounds or ambient electronic music to be more calming. It’s up to you! All types of music can work well in this situation. I tend to opt for a playlist on spotify by searching for “spa relaxation”, or many other terms around meditation or relaxation.

3) Light Outfit

The right outfit can make all the difference when it comes to enjoying your home spa day. Choose something light and airy that won’t constrict your movement. A robe or pair of loose pants and a tank top are always a good choice. You don’t want anything too tight that will leave marks on your skin after a relaxing day of treatments. It’s also nice to have some sort of footwear if you’re using pedicure tools or have a lot of traffic in your house. Something like sandals, flip-flops, or slippers is best.

4) Low Lights and candles

The first step to setting the mood for your spa day is to create a relaxing ambiance. One way to do this is by dimming the lights and lighting some candles. This will help you feel like you’re in a serene and peaceful environment, which is essential for a successful spa day. Another idea is to use a scented candle with calming properties, such as lavender or vanilla, which can have an extremely soothing effect on your mind and body. You could also opt for aromatherapy with a oil diffuser or simply place the oils on a tissue or cotton pad around the room.

5) Mindfulness or Meditation

One of the most important things you can do for yourself is to take a break from your hectic schedule and clear your mind. One way to do this is through mindfulness or meditation. If you’ve never tried it before, there are plenty of resources available to help get you started. Once you’ve found a comfortable position and focus point, simply close your eyes and breathe deeply. Inhale through your nose and exhale through your mouth. Try to focus on your breath and nothing else. Notice how each inhale fills your lungs and makes them expand. Notice how each exhale leaves you with a sense of relief, leaving you refreshed and ready to tackle the next task. You might notice thoughts coming into your head- if so, don’t fight them but instead acknowledge them as they pass. Repeat these steps for five minutes and see what a difference it can make in both your mood and ability to be mindful in other aspects of life.

6) A good book

There’s nothing like losing yourself in a good book but often times we don’t allow ourselves the time to do so. Whether it’s a steamy romance or a thrilling mystery, make sure you give yourself the time to unwind and feel treated. If reading a good book isn’t your thing, think about listening to an audio book or video. Whatever it is that you feel is a treat, pamper yourself and give that time just for you.

7) Set an intention for the session

One of the best things about a spa day is that it can be whatever you want it to be. Whether you’re looking to relax, rejuvenate, or just escape the everyday for a bit, setting an intention can help create focus and make the most of your time. Think about what you’re hoping to get out of this session – from reconnecting with yourself to relieving stress – and commit to making it happen by deciding on a clear intention.
