Whether they’ve been there for days or weeks, here are some tips on how to get rid of chapped lips as quickly as possible so that you can get on with your life!


Exfoliation is the key to getting rid of those pesky chapped lips. Use a sugar scrub, lotion, or even toothpaste on your lips and gently rub in a circular motion to slough off dead skin cells. This will make your lips feel like new again. And don’t forget to use lip balm at night and before going outdoors – those dry winter months are tough on our already dry skin. You can also try applying olive oil around your mouth area at night to keep your lips from drying out.


While there may not be a perfect cure for chapped lips, there are many ways to treat the symptoms and make things feel better. One way is by hydrating your skin with a lip balm or gloss that contains moisturising ingredients like shea butter, coconut oil, or beeswax. Hydrating your skin will help heal any cracks in the skin and make it feel more supple. Drinking plenty of water also helps keep your lips from drying out. 

Use a lip balm with SPF

Lip balms with SPF are a great choice because they will protect your lips from sun damage as well as chapping. Pick a lip balm that has a formula rich in emollients and humectants to heal dry, cracked skin. Pick one that provides broad-spectrum protection against UVA and UVB rays.

Avoid licking your lips

This is a bad idea because it spreads the dry skin around your mouth and can make the problem worse. Also, licking your lips will remove any lip balm or moisture that might have been there. 

Instead, try using a petroleum jelly-based product like Vaseline. Dab it on your chapped lips and then apply a thin layer of chapstick or Vaseline over it. This will moisturise and protect your lips while they heal.

Drink plenty of water

Don’t pick at your lips

Instead, try gently exfoliating with a soft toothbrush or washcloth – this will remove any dead skin cells without irritating your sensitive skin.
