If you want your make-up to look its best, you’ll need the right face brushes! This article will explain what each brush does and where to find the best face brushes in the UK. It’s never been easier to create flawless makeup looks using the right tools!
Brushes!!!
One of the most underrated, but essential, tools for every woman is a brush. Different brushes work for different things and have different finishes depending on what your end goal is with makeup. For example, a powder brush will deliver an even finish whereas a kabuki brush will deliver a more strobe-y result. A flat brush can be used to conceal blemishes. So many options! How do you know which one to use? It all depends on what your personal preference is.
Powder Brush
The powder brush is not a versatile brush, but it’s often the tool of choice when applying setting powder. A well-made, soft-bristled powder brush can work wonders when dusting finishing powder over your foundation. When shopping for this type of brush, opt for a medium-to-large size with dense bristles and an easy release to avoid collecting too much excess product on the surface of your brush.
Foundation Brush
This is a good brush if you’re starting out with makeup or if you have an acne-prone skin. The bristles are synthetic and very densely packed. I find that it applies makeup more evenly and blends more easily than other types of foundation brushes. This type of brush is available in a wide range of prices, depending on what quality brush fibers you’re looking for.
Blush Brush
This is one of my favourite blush brushes and it is so affordable! The bristles are soft and made with synthetic hair, which means they’re good for sensitive skin or those who have skin allergies. The brush is angled which I love because it makes application easier by giving me more control. It’s also great for all over bronzing, contouring, and highlighting.
Contour Brush
Contouring is a beauty trend that’s been popular for many years now. It gives your complexion an instant and sharp jawline, bringing out the natural shape of your face without overdoing it. The ideal brush will have dense bristles, which are essential for application as they pick up just enough product without soaking up too much. The bristles need to be as close together as possible so that when you’re applying powder under your cheekbones, it doesn’t get everywhere.
Large Angled Brush
This brush is my all-time favourite. The bristles are so soft and densely packed, meaning it lasts ages and can be used to apply foundation, blush, bronzer and powder. Plus, I just love how I can work this brush all over my face quickly but gently, whether that’s applying a quick dusting of bronzer or brushing on some more coverage. This is a must-have!
Concealer Brush
It needs to be small and pointed to create a precise line. Don’t use an ordinary eyeshadow brush. Ideally, choose a brush with synthetic bristles and a slanted tip, but if that’s not available then at least make sure it’s made of 100% natural hair or pony hair.
Selecting a brush depends on what you plan to use it for (i.e., concealing, foundation application) and on your personal preference.
Lip Brush
You’ll want to invest in a lip brush to help achieve your desired look. A natural bristled brush will give your lips a flawless finish and is great for applying soft, sheer lipstick tones. For more dramatic lipstick looks, try a synthetic bristle brush with stiffer bristles that will pick up a heavier pigment. It’s important to take good care of your brushes to keep them looking nice and feeling soft. Washing them after every use with mild soap and lukewarm water is key!
