The winter season brings the potential of frigid temperatures, which can wreak havoc on your skin if you’re not properly prepped with the right products and routines. If you want to keep your skin healthy and beautiful this winter, incorporate these five Winter Skincare Products and Regimes into your routine as soon as the temperature drops.
1) Prepare your skin
The winter season is one of the toughest times for your skin. The dry, cold air will cause your skin to experience dryness, redness, itchiness, and sensitivity. To prevent these issues from occurring, follow these five steps:
– Drink plenty of water
– Use a humidifier in your home
– Apply a good moisturiser
– top up on your vitamin E, C and D
– Look after your skin
2) Cleanse
Taking care of your skin is important year-round, but it’s especially crucial in winter. The combination of harsh weather conditions, indoor heating and dry air can wreak havoc on skin by drying it out and causing irritation. Skin also tends to look duller in the winter due to lack of sun exposure. To remedy this, make sure you’re using an exfoliator at least once a week. A scrub will get rid of dead skin cells that are clogging pores, which means less acne for you!
A good time to do this is during your evening routine right before bed so that all the harmful toxins released during sleep have time to work their way out before you wake up. Keeping hydrated throughout the day is another important factor when it comes to keeping skin healthy and moisturized.
3) Toner
Winter can be rough on your skin, which is why it’s so important that you take care of it this season. It’s not as easy as slapping on a cream and leaving it at that, though. Your skin needs time to breathe during the cold months, so make sure you use a gentle toner. These are meant to remove any residue left over from washing, so they’re perfect for sensitive winter skin. I love using Caudalie’s Vine Extract Toner because it smells so nice and gives me an extra boost of moisture after cleansing. I’m also all about Avène Thermal Spring Water Spray because it adds an extra layer of protection against harsh weather conditions like wind and low temperatures. What makes this product even better? It helps prevent dryness!
4) Moisturise
Since winter can dry out your skin, it’s important that you moisturise. This will help with skin irritations like eczema, dermatitis, or psoriasis. The best time of day for moisturizing is at night because during sleep, the body repairs and regenerates itself. This means skin cells are more active at night than during the day. So, moisturising before bedtime ensures that there is a better chance of cell production during this period. Choose a product suited for your skin type, as each one has different needs when it comes to moisture and oil levels. If you have dry skin, then an oil-based product would be great whereas if you have oily skin then a water-based product may be better suited to suit those needs. Try not to use products that contain alcohol, which is drying on the skin. Consider using products from organic lines or brands such as Elemis – they’re packed with natural ingredients which promote collagen production.
